Employers must ensure that the workplace is supervised by the preventive services in a manner that complies with the Employee Protection Act. A supplement of 0.5 hours is charged for night work; seasonal workers and part-time workers are charged on a pro rata basis.

Allocation of prevention time

The allocation of prevention time is regulated by law and must be structured as follows:

  1. at least 40% to the safety specialist (SFK)
  2. at least 35% to the occupational physician (AM)
  3. Up to 25% to other suitable specialists such as occupational psychologists, ergonomists, chemists, toxicologists, etc.

If no experts are consulted, the 25% is to be divided between SFK and AM.

The PFK must keep records of their working hours and activities (inspections, consultations, investigations) and submit an annual report (activities, suggestions for improvement, impact of their activities on prevention measures in the company) to the client. In accordance with legal regulations, safety specialists must carry out the following activities:

  • Advice on all occupational safety issues, including accident prevention
  • Advice on the planning of workplaces
  • Advice on the procurement or modification of work equipment
  • Advice on the introduction or modification of work processes and the introduction of working materials
  • Advice on occupational physiology, occupational psychology and other ergonomic and occupational hygiene issues, in particular issues relating to the design of workplaces and work processes
  • Support in the testing and selection of personal protective equipment
  • Support with the organization of fire protection and evacuation measures
  • Regular adjustment of the existing risk assessment
  • Definition of risk prevention measures
  • Support with organization, instruction and creation of operating instructions
  • Support with administrative procedures
